Storage Unit Package Receiving Services

Secure Package Receiving Services Across Canada

Between running a business, managing inventory, or just trying to keep life organized, one of the most common questions we get is some version of: "Can deliveries just go straight to my unit?" The answer is yes, and we've built a straightforward system to make it work.

Whether you're storing business inventory, running an online store out of a unit, or simply expecting the occasional courier drop-off, Bluebird's package receiving service means you don't have to be on-site every time a delivery arrives.

How It Works: Bluebird Package Receiving Services

We've kept this process deliberately simple, because storage should make your life easier, not add another thing to manage.

  • You sign a Hold Harmless Agreement. Before any courier access is set up, you'll sign an agreement authorizing deliveries directly to your unit. This protects you, us, and keeps everyone clear on how the process works.
  • We hold a key on file. Rather than staff entering your unit (something we don't do, for your protection and ours), we hold a key specifically so couriers can access your unit directly for drop-off.
  • Couriers deliver right to your door. When a package arrives, the courier uses the key on file to place it right inside your unit.
  • You carry on with your day. No rearranging your schedule around a delivery window, no missed package slips, no driving back to the facility because you weren't there when the courier showed up.

Package Receiving Services Tailored to You

Bluebird is known to accommodate a wide variety of storage needs (including business, household, moving, and vehicle storage). Our package receiving services help us meet the needs of even more members of our community, including:

  • Online sellers and e-commerce businesses storing inventory
  • Small businesses using storage as overflow warehousing
  • Contractors and tradespeople receiving supply deliveries
  • Anyone expecting regular courier shipments (parts, equipment, stock)
  • Renters who travel frequently or can't always be on-site for deliveries

If you're expecting a steady flow of courier deliveries rather than the occasional package, this is exactly the kind of setup that makes a storage unit function more like a real operational space.

Setting Up Package Receiving on Your Storage Unit

Getting your package receiving set up is quick and doesn't require any special unit type. It's an add-on to your existing rental, not a separate product.

  • Sign the Hold Harmless Agreement at your local storage facility, which formally authorizes courier access to your unit.
  • We collect and hold a designated key specifically for courier use
  • You update your shipping addresses with your unit number and facility address
  • Deliveries start arriving directly to your unit, no further action needed on your end

It's a one-time setup that then runs quietly in the background every time a package shows up.

Security You Can Count On

We know handing over any form of unit access, even in a limited and controlled way, raises a fair question: how secure is this, really? A few things worth knowing:

  • Gated access and on-site security at Bluebird facilities means your packages are never an easy target for porch thieves.
  • Keys are held specifically for courier access, not floating around as general-purpose facility keys.
  • You're always in control of what's authorized. If you want to end your package receiving access at any point, that's just a quick conversation with your local team.

A Quick Note on Mail Delivery

While we're happy to facilitate courier package delivery at select locations, we don't handle regular mail (think letters, bills, or standard postal mail through Canada Post). Our system is built around courier drop-offs, like parcels, shipments, and business deliveries, not acting as a mailing address. If you need a mailing address for correspondence, a PO box or dedicated mail service is a better fit for that specific need. Other limitations to this service include:

  • Deliveries must happen during staffed hours. Even though many Bluebird facilities offer extended access hours, package receiving is tied to our staffed hours (generally 9:00 am-5:00 pm or 9:30 am-5:30 pm, depending on location). This is what allows us to verify your agreement, hand off the key to the courier, and get it back into safekeeping once the delivery's complete.
  • Some items aren't a fit for this service. Perishables needing immediate refrigeration, live plants or animals, weapons, and hazardous or flammable materials are common no-gos. Restrictions can vary by location, so it's worth a quick check with your local team if you're expecting anything unusual.
  • Your unit needs the space to handle it. A storage unit isn't a front porch. There's no flexible overflow room, and couriers won't be rearranging boxes to make things fit neatly. If you're expecting a large delivery or a bulk order, plan to stop by and reorganize every so often so there's room (and safe access) for what's coming next.
  • Couriers, not staff, complete the delivery. Since our team doesn't enter your unit, the courier themselves needs to bring the package inside using the key on file. Most couriers are familiar with this process, but it's not universal. If you run into pushback, it's worth confirming directly with your delivery service how they handle storage unit drop-offs.
