The Beauty of Temporary Storage
We often think of storage as either a seasonal solution (it's time to put away the snowblower and get out the grill!) or a long-term relief (we don't want to get rid of great-grandma's dishes, but we don't have room for them in the house, either). However, there's another option: temporary storage.
Temporary storage allows you to clear your home partially or completely if you're going to be gone for awhile. It's much cheaper to rent a storage unit than it is to rent an apartment, so if you'll be leaving for an extended period of time, it might make sense to move your items into temporary storage.
If you're renting a home or apartment, you might prefer to move out and save the rent money if you're going on a lengthy deployment. As another option, if your rental agreement allows it, you could sublet your home while you're away – another good reason to put your belongings in storage so the new occupant has space for his or her things.

Maybe you're going to spend six months on the other side of the world, or take the summer to drive across Canada. Again, depending upon your rental or roommate situation, it might be a good idea to put your belongings in storage while you're away.
Maybe a friend or family member needs to live with you while waiting for a house to be built, a divorce to be finalized, or a job to come through. Both of you could benefit from putting some items in temporary storage! You can create some space in your home for your long-term guest, and your guest doesn't have to cram all his or her belongings into the space you created. Both of you will enjoy the extra breathing room!
Rent Your Home
If you own your home and would like to turn it into a vacation rental for some lucky travelers for a while, put your most precious belongings in temporary storage. This could include especially expensive furniture, treasured keepsakes, and art or antiques. Your renters don't need those items, and you'll feel better knowing they're safe from potential damage at the hands of someone who doesn't know their value or, perhaps, doesn't care.
Temporary storage is a great way to make your life easier while going through a transition or spending time away from home. You can rest assured your belongings are safe, secure, and ready for you when you need them again.
